Bonum and Fram Eiendomsinvest get green light for major residential project at Økern

The project comprises 270–300 homes and approximately 3,000 square metres of commercial space. The planning proposal was adopted by the city council with only one vote against, and marks a milestone in the transformation of Økern. The party Rødt wanted instead to opt for the Plan and Building Agency's alternative with approximately 45 fewer flats.

With a broad political majority, Bonum and the Torstein Tvenge company Fram Eiendomsinvest have had their residential project at Økern approved.

The project will be an important part of the transformation of central Økern, and is part of a collaboration entered into in 2019 between Bonum and Tvenge's property venture.

The project has an attractive location near Den grønne ringen, Økernparken and the forthcoming Hovinparken, with a short distance to Økern Sentrum and one of the country's largest public transport hubs.

"We are very pleased that our alternative received a broad political majority. This is recognition of the qualities we have included in the project, both in terms of planning solutions and architecture. The project's location and holistic solution provide attractive flats with high qualities," says Anders Bakken Eriksen, managing director of Bonum.

The residential project combines dense perimeter block development in brick and timber with tower blocks in the north, solar panels on roofs and a varied flat distribution, where up to 40 per cent of the units will be under 50 square metres.

Project manager at Bonum, Bjørn Wikan, emphasises the importance of a holistic and site-adapted project: "We have good dialogue with other developers in the area and work closely with neighbour Økern Sentrum on shared challenges. The development at Økern will take place over many years, and it is essential that we pull in the same direction so that the area coheres both now and in the future. The municipality's role is crucial, especially when it comes to implementing cross-area infrastructure such as Økern torgvei."

Bonum expects the project to be the first of several in the area and an important contribution to the housing supply in Oslo.
