Property as a career path: about property professions and Norway's leading property companies
The property industry is a significant employer in Norway, with thousands of skilled owners and employees, who in turn are a major client for large parts of the banking and finance sector, the construction industry, the estate agency sector, the architecture sector and other advisory services across the country. The leading property companies create and transform entire urban districts, and contribute actively to social development through their development projects, so that society has a supply of housing, retail buildings, office buildings, logistics and warehouse buildings, shopping centres and hotels. Property provides the very framework for how people work, shop, socialise, live and play.
Nevertheless, the property industry is to a large extent an unknown employer for many in society, and as a result the industry misses out on many talents who could help make us even better equipped to meet society's wishes and needs. Our world is undergoing strong and continuous change, as a result of megatrends and technological innovations such as the sharing economy, digitalisation, new business models that turn the old models on their head, and the emergence of an increasing freelance mindset amongst employees. This new landscape challenges us as an industry, whilst at the same time we have access to an enormous infrastructure of property and buildings in our own portfolios, where the combination of these will form the foundation for tomorrow's property industry.
Eiendomsbransjen.no has been launched as a knowledge portal where society can become better acquainted with the country's leading property players, both private and public enterprises, who have in common that they can offer exciting and varied property professions and careers. Here you can get to know our leading knowledge enterprises that invest in, develop and manage property, and who therefore have a major social responsibility and a key role in urban and place development in Norway. This requires a broad diversity of expertise, insight and experience, but also visions and ambitions, and a desire to leave positive marks for future generations.
Good initiative
We are proud to be able to participate in this project, and think it is a good initiative. We want to contribute to raising awareness about the property industry as a workplace.
At Bonum we have a good mix of skilled people with different backgrounds such as engineers, architects, interior designers, economists, lawyers etc. Directing focus towards the property industry as a workplace is something we want to participate in raising awareness about so that we can reach all potentially good employees, says Christian Kjemperud, HR and Personnel Manager at Bonum.
When we recruit we spend a lot of time on screening and the interview process to find the best candidates for the individual positions, and in recent years have built up a database of several thousand candidates who have applied for various positions with us. In addition to direct job advertisements we also participate in career days and other relevant forums to reach potential candidates, and have a strong focus on newly qualified candidates for our trainee programme.
Bonum today consists of 70 employees with varied backgrounds; what we all have in common is that we have a genuine interest in the profession. The working environment is consequently characterised by dedicated employees who work hard and go the extra mile to pull together in the same direction. Several factors, such as low sickness absence, low turnover and good feedback, tell us that we have a good working environment and this is something we focus greatly on maintaining and further developing. Most employees with us would probably recognise themselves in the statements that we have a varied working day with exciting challenges, a dynamic working environment, and employees with the desire and ability to think innovatively and be creative, the personnel manager concludes.
